When it comes to writing I need more than space, I need preparation, silence and solitude.
It’s sunday, I start my day with a good strech, a very bumpy walk to the kitchen where I have a tall glass of water, followed by a healthy breakfast washed down with a mug of coffee. Cleaning and tidying up come first, nothing else is done before the bed is made and looking neat. A quick lukewarm shower and body care routines after the morning workout only. By the time I’m fully clothed and ready, the floor is clean, everything is in place and there’s nothing else to take care of, so I can pull the blinds all the way up and let the morning sun fill the room, open the window and let the air circulate. It’s summer and I have a fan pointed at my face, nonetheless. I sit down and put on classical music, I do my reading, I take my minerals, I have fruit and water with me and when I’m done reading articles and the daily news, I stick to writing.
The room is lit up with sunlight, the music is soothing, the place is in order, in my desk the computer is on although I write and edit on paper, the books I’m studying and a translation I’m working are here to remind me of what’s to do next, probably right after lunch, and a to complete drawing book rests next to the pencil and rubber to relax in between activities. The drawing materials are stored right next to me, so I don’t really have to move a lot. It’s risky to work in my bedroom, but it’s the safest place with everything I need to work with, plus it has my smell and vivid memories, it is fully charged with my obsessions and tokens of love, life and inspiration.
This is my workspace.
